About AT for All
Whether you’re new to the Alexander Technique, or you’re just hungry for more, our specialized group classes offer an abundance of ways to apply AT to your life and help you feel better. Taught by graduates of RIAT, RIAT teachers or Affiliates, these pay-what-you-can offerings range from AT for Musicians, to AT for Seniors, to using the Technique to practice resilience, to spaces specifically designed for BIPOC or Queer folks to explore the Technique.
Classes take place at the Sapientia Center in the Flatiron District of Manhattan. All classes are $5. No one will be turned away. And if you can pay more, that will pave the way for others. All levels welcome.

AT for Poise and Focus in Performance, taught by Diane Bruce

Whether you struggle with performance anxiety or just wish to up your performance game, AT can help! For those in the performing arts or who engage in public speaking, this class will offer ways to use posture, self-talk, and breath to stay present and connected with your whole self as well your audience. The class will include a series of warm-up exercises to help you be grounded and ready to give your full self in performance. Open to all, whether you attended the two previous sessions or are joining us for the first time.

Diane Bruce m.AmSat, is a professional violinist and Alexander Teacher in Metuchen, NJ and Manhattan, and in Chautauqua, NY, during the summer. She trained at ACAT and RIAT, receiving certification in 2019.

We are socialized human creatures who need space for our inner wild things to be expressed, but too much wild energy without a well-supported somatic structure in place can overwhelm and fragment us. This class will help us access our vital, creative, wild energy in intentional and sustainable ways. Come ready to explore and play. Taught in-person with the option to attend on Zoom.

Ariel Carson

Ariel Carson, m.AmSAT, SEP, is an associate director and faculty member at RIAT. She received her AmSAT teaching certification through Alexander Technique New York City (ATNYC), headed by teachers Nan Walsh and John Nicholls.

Ariel is also a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, and SE training assistant. She has assisted at The Juilliard School, and guest taught at Boston University where she earned her BFA. She has also been a guest teacher at The Colburn School, and Saint Ann’s School. Ariel previously worked as a teaching artist for the Leadership Program, teaching leadership skills through the arts to under-served students in New York City public schools. She is the organizer of the Healing for Activists NYC chapter. From her work with U.S. veterans, to performers, to activists, to the LGBTQ+ community, Ariel is most interested in teaching the Alexander Technique as part of a holistic and multifaceted approach to cultivating greater sustainability, vitality, and freedom in the body-minds of her current and future clients. Alexander Technique for Musicians, taught by Fanny Wyrick-Flax

This class offers musicians practical tools to prevent injury, improve practice habits, and support a sustainable career. You’ll learn to recognize habits that may be holding you back, make intentional choices in how you think and move, and apply key ideas from the Alexander Technique directly to your music practice. Musicians of all levels are welcome—no prior experience with the Alexander Technique is needed. Please feel free to bring your instrument! In-person only.

About Fanny
Fanny Wyrick-Flax

Fanny Wyrick-Flax, m.AmSAT, began studying the Alexander Technique in 2011 and completed her certification in 2022. Fanny is a member of The Juilliard School’s Alexander Technique Faculty in the Music Division and serves as Assistant Faculty at the Riverside Initiative for the Alexander Technique. She has been a guest teacher at Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts, The Juilliard Preparatory Division, Orchestrating Dreams, and Sapientia Initiative’s AT for All. Fanny has also been an Assistant Faculty member in Alexander Technique at Manhattan School of Music and at The Fordham Theatre Program.

This practical 90-minute workshop introduces the Alexander Technique as a way to improve posture, coordination, and movement to support healthy bones and stronger muscles. Through simple experiential activities, participants will explore how reducing tension and improving alignment allows forces to travel more efficiently through the body during everyday movements like standing, bending, walking, and lifting. Open to everyone interested in bone health and injury prevention. Taught in-person with the option to attend on Zoom.

About Kristin
Kristin Mozeiko

Dr. Kristin Mozeiko, founder of Alexander Technique Brooklyn and ART of Releasing, is an AmSAT-certified Alexander Technique teacher. In 2008 she completed a three year 1,600-hour, teacher training program at ATNYC where she studied under John Nicholls and Nanette Walsh and later served on faculty as a teacher-trainer.

In this session, open to all levels, we’ll create an empowering space exclusively for people of color. Led by BIPOC instructors, our classes blend principles of AT with cultural understanding and inclusivity. Through gentle guidance and exploration, folks can cultivate awareness, balance and freedom of movement in a supportive space. Together, we’ll explore AT within the context of our diverse identities and experiences. After, join us for a short meet and greet to build our community.

The Collective, led by Emily Rodriguez, m.AmSAT and Stephen McLean, m.AmSAT, is a group dedicated towards centering the thoughts and experiences of non-white students and practitioners in order to re-envision AT and find new ways of making it truly more inclusive and accessible. It is our hope that the BIPOC community within AT will continue to grow and flourish.
