With help from supporters like you, last year, Sapientia was able to grow its three main programs:
1. Three-year Teacher Certification Program (Riverside Initiative for the Alexander Technique), one of the largest and most diverse 1600-hour AT teacher certification programs in the world.
- offered teacher training 5 days a week, 34 weeks of the year, and is currently enrolled with a total of 16 students on the course: 12 candidates training to be teachers, and 4 students doing intensive study.
- graduated 2 nationally certified teachers, and enrolled 6 new candidates training to be teachers, 2 of which began as intensive students, and enrolled 2 new intensive students.
- continued to build its faculty — currently with a total of over 100 years of teaching experience, drawing teachers from some of the most well-respected collegiate programs in the U.S.
- continued to offer weekly hybrid learning options keeping everyone connected
- continued to provide post graduate training, learning, and teaching opportunities
2. AT for All
- subsidized discounted private Alexander lessons through a first-of-its-kind community outreach program
- In 2024, held 115 private lessons and served 101 group class participants
- so far in 2025 we held 259 private lessons (more than double our 2024 total as the year isn’t over yet!) and served 116 group class participants
3. RIAT Continuing Education Offerings
- featured in-person, as well as hybrid, classes in the Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer
- provided a wide variety of AT and AT-related classes including:
- an 8 part Group Teaching Webinar with Amanda MacDonald
- Dart Procedures with Karen DeWig
- Trauma Informed AT Teaching with Ariel Carson
Last year Sapientia also matured as a nonprofit by:
- hosting our second annual fundraising event for AT for All
- honoring Judy Stern with our Lifetime Achievement Award
- applying for eight grants to support AT for All
- building our donor database
- growing & training our board
