Dear Friend,
At Sapientia Initiative, we are dedicated to human freedom; that is, freedom to be and become the fullness of who we are— individually and collectively.
It might not come as a surprise that, at Sapientia, we think one of the best means for engendering this kind of freedom is the Alexander Technique:
it releases habitual tension, fosters freedom in thought and action, builds flexibility, strength, and resilience, and in doing so helps free us from many of the harmful compulsions of our personal and collective histories.
By harmoniously integrating breath, movement, and postural support, AT simply helps folks feel better, think better, breathe better, and move better.

This year, we’ve worked tirelessly to preserve AT’s rich lineage, protect AT as a profession, and propel AT into the future for generations to come. Thanks to your support, we’ve significantly increased our reach and expanded our community, helping more people to discover the Technique, while also running our top-of-the-line training course, 34 weeks of the year. We’ve also been reimagining our website, which we’ll formally be launching in January.

Our AT for All program, offering donation-based classes, now serves four times as many students as it did last year. The 2024 AT for All classes explored diverse topics, including AT for musicians, integrating AT with meditation, and AT for scoliosis, among others. Additionally, we have expanded our reach by offering several off-site classes in community centers and introduced hybrid options to make classes more widely accessible.
Many people turn to the Alexander Technique to seek relief from chronic pain. This year, we’ve deepened our commitment to the Technique in relation to modern pain science by celebrating John Austin’s contributions with a lifetime achievement award; and collaborating with leading scientists Tim Cacciatore and Mari Hodges to offer their cutting-edge course that integrates modern pain science and AT.

We are committed to continuing this work, but to keep our doors open and expand our impact, we need your help.
But there’s more to do. When we opened the Sapientia Center five years ago, amid the beginnings of the pandemic, we made a bold decision to create a dedicated, welcoming space for learning, connection, and growth. Over the past few years, the Center has become a vibrant hub for Alexander Technique education, research, and practice.
How You Can Help
Make a Donation: Your support—whether large or small—is invaluable. We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and all donations are tax-deductible. A generous gift of $250 will fully fund an AT for All class, ensuring we can continue to reach underserved communities. $1,000 can help fund an entire series. Visit give.wegoup.org.
Rent a Studio: Our studio spaces are available for private lessons, classes, and events. Renting a space is a great way to support Sapientia’s programs while using our facilities for your own work.
Share Our Vision: Help us spread the word! Follow us on social media and share our posts to help us reach more people. Find us on Instagram at @sapientia.initiative or visit sapientiainitiative.org to learn more about our work. The more people who know about the Alexander Technique and its benefits, the more lives we can touch.
While services we provide help support our work, donations from individuals like you are essential to keeping our doors open. Will you help us continue providing access to this transformative work?
Thank you for being part of our community and our mission!
Sincerely,
Nan Walsh
